Rosedale School

The Rosedale School has offered one simple message: Your child is welcome here. Created in 1988 within the original Rosedale Elementary School, Rosedale serves students aged 3-22 with severe special needs, including medically fragile children who need intensive behavioral support. The new Rosedale opened its doors in spring 2022.

The new campus was thoughtfully planned and designed to support the individually tailored programs for its students and create a welcoming, empowering, and community-focused school. An inclusive and collaborative design process engaged teachers, staff, families, school supporters and community members to create a one-of-a-kind campus for specialized learning and support. The building is organized into distinct learning neighborhoods for Medically Fragile, Behavioral, Transition to Life in the Community, and shared community spaces all connected to a central commons, known as the living room.

The forms, spaces and materials of each neighborhood are inspired by the natural environment including the colors and patterns of vegetation, the sensation and movement of water, and the shapes and textures of wildlife. The campus includes space for a pediatric clinic community partner dedicated to the care of children with complex medical issues. The combination of a school and clinic serving individuals with medical and behavioral needs within one facility will serve as a model for other communities across the country.
