2017 Bond Program: T.A. Brown Elementary School

The modernized T.A. Brown Elementary School, one of the first projects to be completed as part of the 2017 Bond Program, opened its doors on January 8, 2020. The school hosted a grand opening celebration to welcome the school community to the new modernized school.

The school has been designed as a green school rooted in science, technology, engineering, the arts, mathematics, and outdoor learning. The facility was built with a focus on sustainability, health and well-being, transparency, and a connection to the community. A key desire among community members was to retain the existing trees, which helped inform the building orientation and site features including driveways, parking, and landscaping. The school boasts unique learning environments, such as maker spaces, a community room, a media resource center, and a learning staircase. The entry courtyard is known as the ‘reading labyrinth’ to encourage literacy for all who enter.

To commemorate this grand opening milestone, AISD TV created a video that showcases the new modernized campus and shares stories from those who helped bring the new school to life. Check it out:

It is so exciting to see the modernized schools come to life and we are looking forward to the work still to come through the 2017 Bond Program. Thank you for your patience and support as we work to create 21st-century learning spaces for all students and continue to reinvent the urban school experience!
