Community Eager to Weigh in on Attendance Zone for New Middle School in Northeast Austin

Community members said they’d like to see a more robust community engagement and outreach strategy for academic programming and boundary discussions for the new Middle School in Northeast Austin at the Sept. 21 community meeting.

The calls come after a delay in the school’s opening.

“The delay offers another opportunity to conduct a meaningful, community-involved process to determine the school’s academic programming and enrollment design,” said one attendee.

Community members also said they would like the district to review the overall feeder patterns to ensure equity.

“I would also consider looking at feeder patterns in northeast Austin, in general as part of enrollment planning for this campus to make sure this doesn’t further divide the region but is used as an opportunity to bring the region together.”  This sentiment was echoed by multiple community members.

The district is committed to providing additional opportunities for community input and will share more information when it is available. To ensure you receive information on how to get involved in future discussions, please sign up for email updates here
