Doss & Murchison: January 2019 Update
The Doss Elementary and Murchison Middle School modernization projects are tracking to open on schedule as part of the 2017 Bond Program.
The Doss modernization is in the Construction phase. To date, 13 CAT meetings have taken place, with the next meeting scheduled for January 15. Five community meetings have been held, including the groundbreaking ceremony held in the fall.

Demolition and abatement are scheduled to start in Spring of 2019 following receipt of the site development permit from the City of Austin, which is in the final stages of approval. AISD has been working in close partnership with City leadership to address all permitting challenges to ensure the project is delivered in time. Vertical construction is scheduled to begin by April 2019. The modernized Doss ES is still on schedule to open in August of 2020.
Unfortunately, there has been vandalism within the Doss construction site. The AISD Police Department has been made aware of the situation; officers will be proactively patrolling the site regularly and investigating all damage.
The Murchison modernization is in the Design Development phase, which immediately precedes construction. To date, 18 meetings have taken place for the Campus Architectural Team that is leading the project, along with three community outreach events. There will be a Principal’s Coffee held on January 10 from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
A meeting with the AISD department heads was held on December 13 to review the Design Development package. Construction is expected to begin with the new classroom addition and the library infill starting by June of 2019. Murchison MS’s main building remodel is expected to be complete in December 2020, and the new addition is scheduled to be complete in August 2020.
