On Friday, Sept. 18, the Rosedale School community and Austin ISD celebrated the groundbreaking of the Rosedale modernization project with a drive-by parade. Due to COVID-19, the district opted for a socially distanced parade to ensure the school community was able to safely celebrate the start of construction. Rosedale students and families drove by the current Rosedale campus to paint their vehicles and collect special Rosedale car magnets. AISD police then escorted families from the Beverly Sheffield Northwest District Park to the construction site of the new Rosedale campus.

Rosedale Principal Elizabeth Dickey, Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Elizalde, Board of Trustees Vice President Cindy Anderson, District 4 Trustee Kristin Ashy, District 2 Trustee Jayme Mathias, and District 3 Trustee Ann Teich cheered at the event with celebratory signs as students and families drove by the construction site. AISD leadership was joined by Rosedale staff, volunteers and community members from the neighborhood.

The Rosedale School offers tailored educational opportunities and quality instruction for children with severe special needs, including children who are medically fragile or need intensive behavioral support. The campus also houses the Transition to Life in the Community program, which prepares older students for postsecondary life. The 2017 Bond Program will deliver a modernized campus located at the formerLucy Read Pre-K site that is custom-built to meet the needs of Rosedale students. The new school is expected to open in Spring 2022.
