LBJ Early College High School also began construction on its modernization this summer, which includes a new media center and spaces for the Health Sciences Program.

L.C. Anderson Historical Marker Dedication

L.C. Anderson alumni at the historical marker dedication ceremony

On July 17, L.C. Anderson High School alumni traveled from near and far to commemorate the location of Austin’s only Black public high school. Joined by U.S. Congressman Lloyd Doggett, Mayor Steve Adler and AISD leadership, the alumni shared nostalgic memories of their high school years as they unveiled the historical marker at the site of the new Eastside Early College High School.

“L.C. Anderson was like a home to us,” said alumna Estelle Solomon Brooks, class of 1958. “It was like a family to us, so to have this event today will serve as memories for our generations to come for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren.”

The mark of L.C. Anderson is unmistakable in the new Eastside campus, honoring the legacy of “Always Remembered, Always Treasured.”

Project Spotlight: Blazier Elementary School Intermediate Site

Blazier Elementary School Intermediate Site media resource center

Located in southeast Austin, Blazier Elementary School Intermediate Site is the first facility specifically designed to serve grades four, five and six in Austin ISD. As part of the 2017 Bond Program, this project provides immediate relief to overcapacity at the elementary school. Designed with the goal of increasing connectivity and building relationships, all academic wings connect to the media center and main cafetorium. As part of AISD’s Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Program, 7 percent of the work at Blazier was completed by minority-owned contractors, and an additional 11 percent by women-owned contractors. The modernization project represents $6.5 million invested into HUBs. The Blazier Blue Jays have enjoyed the new facility since it opened in August 2020.
