Brentwood families and community members learned that their modernized school is on track to open for the August 2022 school year at a community meeting Oct. 26.
Why it matters: Brentwood Elementary is getting a complete modernization, including new classroom spaces, gym, cafeteria and playground areas. Families were concerned that COVID had delayed the project and their students might have to stay at their temporary location on the Webb campus longer.
Families also got a glimpse of the mural designs for various spaces throughout the building, which received positive feedback from parents.
- Brentwood parent Christa Berry stated, “Love love love the art! And my daughter saw the playground mockups and was super pumped. Thank you for all the work on this.”
- Attendee Karen Cotton also noted, “As a grandparent of a current student, I’m delighted to see this work! Thanks to all involved.”
Questions included whether the campus design was altered due to COVID-19 and whether a public trail is included in the project.
- District officials said that all modernized facilities built through the 2017 Bond include expanded outdoor learning spaces, upgraded air filtration systems and window ventilation.
- Additionally, this project will include a hike-and-bike trail on Arroyo Seco that connects to the sidewalk leading to Brentwood Park.
