On January 19, the Eastside Memorial Early College High School and International High School communities and Original L.C. Anderson alumni celebrated the groundbreaking of a new, modernized facility.
Current Eastside and International students were paired with the alumni for a special series of conversations, addressing topics including promise, pain, pride, perseverance and posterity. The conversations were designed to recognize the importance of these topics and their role in the lives of the students and alumni. Sharing their personal stories, each speaker provided insight into what it means to build a school community and create a legacy.
The event featured special musical performances including Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing led by Anderson alumni Buelah Agnes Curry Jones, and A Change Is Gonna Come performed by James Robinson, grandson of an Anderson alumni, as well as remarks by Eastside Principal Miguel Garcia, Pamela Nesby McCullaugh representing the Original L.C Anderson alumni, AISD Trustee Cindy Anderson and Superintendent Dr. Paul Cruz. The groundbreaking also recognized many key members of each school community:
