T.A. Brown Elementary School
T.A. Brown Elementary School opened in January 2020 as one of the first modernization projects completed as part of the 2017 Bond program. The original school was vacated immediately after significant structural issues that posed a safety risk to staff and students were discovered by engineers in late 2016. As part of the Facility Master Plan approved by the Austin ISD Board of Trustees, Webb Primary joined the T.A. Brown community after the modernized facility was constructed.
T.A. Brown has been designed as a green school rooted in science, technology, engineering, the arts, mathematics and outdoor learning. The facility focuses on sustainability, health and well-being, transparency and a connection to the community. The school is organized into three unique zones: the Colony, Treehouse and Den. The entry courtyard is known as the reading labyrinth to encourage literacy for all who enter.
The campus embraces the legacy of Mr. T.A. Brown, principal of Pease Elementary for 41 years, who was known for his high character and devotion to education. The modernized facility has been awarded LEED Gold certification as well as the 2020 Outstanding Construction Award from the Associated General Contractors Texas branch.
