As part of the 2017 Bond Program, Bowie High School received the first phase of its modernization, including parking, athletics and fine arts upgrades. The project was completed in phases to minimize interruptions to students and teachers and to keep the campus fully operational throughout the entire construction process.
Why it matters: The improvements are helping to address overcrowding on campus and provide modern spaces for students to develop their talents.
The project includes:
- A new multi-story parking garage to reduce crowding and free up the existing lot for the Bowie band to practice on campus. This also eliminates the need to transport instruments and equipment to another location.
- A 72,000-square-foot facility includes gymnasiums, locker rooms and coaches’ offices, which was completed Summer 2021.
- Renovations to the fine arts building to provide modernized classrooms, practice rooms, spaces for dance and band and a new 600-seat performing arts auditorium, which opened to students Fall 2022.
Congratulations to the Bowie High School community on this exciting milestone!
