In April 2023, LBJ ECHS celebrated the completion of its Phase 1 modernization project, built as part of the 2017 Bond Program. Construction for the modernized spaces began in June 2021 and was completed in December 2022. Students were welcomed into the modernized campus when they returned from winter break in January 2023.
Key features include:
- A new library media center
- Student common areas
- Two recording studios
- A computer lab
- A community room
- A medical professionals suite that simulates real-life experience in fields such as nursing, dentistry, surgical technology and labor and delivery.
Why it matters: The modernized spaces serve as a central meeting hub that unifies the academic wing with the rest of the building and provides a comfortable, inviting place for students to learn, study, and socialize.
What’s next: Design of the Phase 2 modernization, funded by the 2022 Bond Program, is underway. This project will include improvements to life safety, heating and air, electrical, plumbing, and roofing, as well as upgrades to the athletic spaces and locker rooms.
