Norman Elementary School Groundbreaking

On May 23 the Norman Elementary School community came together to celebrate the groundbreaking for the school’s full modernization project.

Austin ISD Superintendent, Dr. Paul Cruz, joined Norman principal Wendy Mills, AISD Board of Trustees president Geronimo Rodriguez, architects from Kirksey, educators, parents and some very excited students in breaking ground on the next phase in the school’s $25 million-dollar modernization project.

“What an honor for us it is to have you here and celebrate this just amazing, amazing day,” said Dr. Cruz addressing Norman’s family, led by G. W. Normans granddaughter Delia Mary Norman Jones. “I think it [education] starts with family. That’s what Norman Elementary School represents.”

The groundbreaking was preceded by a short parade of 50 Norman students from Sims Elementary, where the schools are currently co-located – accompanied by the sounds of Austin’s own Boss Street Band and escorted by Travis County Sargent Tonya Nixon and a few of Travis County Precinct 1s finest as well as AISD police.

Thank you to all who attended the celebration, and for your continued support as AISD creates 21st-centrury learning spaces for all students!
