T.A. Brown Receives AGC Outstanding Construction Award

On September 3, the Associated General Contractors – Texas Building Branch Executive Committee (AGC-TBB) announced that T.A. Brown Elementary School was awarded the 2020 Outstanding Construction Award (OCA) for the competition category Design-Build 2.

Every year, the Austin AGC hosts the Outstanding Construction Awards competition, judged by a distinguished panel of industry professionals. Projects are evaluated on the following criteria: difficulty in construction resulting from design, unusual construction techniques involved, timeliness of completion, final appearance and quality of the finished product.

In 2017, the T.A. Brown campus closed due to foundational issues within the school and students attended a temporary facility located at Barrington Elementary School When the 2017 Bond was passed, this facility’s modernization was a top priority for Austin ISD. The goal for the new campus was to create a community-based facility that encouraged new ways of learning.

Constructed by Rogers-O’Brien, the complete modernization of T.A. Brown incorporates collaborative, interdisciplinary, and project-based learning inside flexible educational environments. Built as a green school rooted in STEM and sustainability, this campus has unique outdoor spaces like the nature loop trail, learning pond and nature playscape. T.A. Brown also received LEED Gold Certification in early 2021 for its sustainability-focused construction.

Congratulations to T.A. Brown and Rogers-O’Brien for receiving this exciting award!
